Podcasts / Social Media

Podcasts are one of the many expressions of social media, and a quite central one at that. These are some of the podcast productions that I've been developing and working on over the last years. Next to the research and content production, community building is a key aspect in evolving something that is more than just a flash in the pan. These projects involve a fair amount of audio and video production, blogging, social media and online marketing.

Tips from the Top Floor
I started this show in April 2005, when Podcasting was still a young medium. The show has been two times winner of and four times finalist in the PodcastAwards (Education) and has made Best of iTunes 2007. Tips from the Top Floor features a new weekly episode and video specials.

Happy Shooting
After the success of Tips from the Top Floor, it was a natural progression to produce a German show about photography. Happy Shooting was started in 2006 and is co-hosted by Boris Nienke. The production includes a weekly audio show and the occasional video special.

Social Media
Having been active in the social media space before the term "social media" was even coined, I see today's development both, as something that is very exciting, but also as a logical outcome of the seed that has been planted when the internet started to become mainstream back in the 1990s.

These are a few examples of social media sites that I use on a daily basis.

Twitter is currently the most exciting micro blogging platform (but don't let yourself be fooled by this description, you'll have to experience it yourself). YouTube and vimeo are two great services that let you share video. flickr is the platform that revolutionized online photo sharing and without skype and its free international internet phone calls, a lot of today's connected internet wouldn't have happened the way it did.

"Just look at Twitter or Google+, I mean really look at them, live them, breathe them, and you'll understand how much sense it makes to be able to lift the water hole up to a new and global platform."

"Social media are primarily Internet- and mobile-based tools for sharing and discussing information among human beings. The term most often refers to activities that integrate technology, telecommunications and social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio."
