Join fellow photographers for the next San Francisco Street Safari! We'll have three spectacular days in San Francisco, a colorful urban scene with dramatic and engaging photographic opportunities. Photographers of all levels are welcome including those just starting out and those looking to hone their street photography skills.

The San Francisco Street Photography Workshops have quickly become a highlight. This is the third year where we learn a lot about people photography, image composition and taking pictures of strangers in the street. You will be immersed in a three-day photography experience, surrounded by like-minded people who all want to extend their knowledge and add new tools to their creative tool-box.
"Just this past Friday I was asked to take pictures at a work event and I was pleasantly surprised how much my street photography lessons came into play! It was a wonderful experience and I can see that my pictures are much better now after thinking about your lessons."

Why it is such a great idea to come to one of these workshops
  • Listen to Chris on his shows or on the Tech Guy radio show, and you'll see that he knows how to bake complicated things into easy-to-digest knowledge
  • You will get in-depth lectures and exercises on selected topics
  • You will spend the workshop away from the daily treadmill together with like-minded people
  • A lot of the participants are members of the TFTTF community or listeners of Leo Laporte's TWiT Network and his Tech Guy radio show, so chances are you'll feel right at home
  • You will get lots of hands-on through assignments and reviews. Truly the best way to learn!
  • The workshops provide a relaxed learning atmosphere
  • You will be in constant exchange with others (usually this continues even after the workshop is over)
  • The workshops provide a safe and forgiving learning environment for any level of knowledge (and camera)
  • The workshops are lots and lots of fun!

"It far exceeded my expectations
and I captured some of the best
people photos I've ever taken."
-- Leandra, 2009 participant

Workshop agenda and contents
This list will always depend on the needs of the according workshop group, the workshop will always be adjusted to provide the most for all participants.

The days start at 9am and end around 5pm with the exception of the last workshop day ending around 4pm.

There is a 1-hour lunch break planned for each day around noon time.

On one of the evenings we usually record an episode of Tips from the Top Floor, on another evening we go out for dinner as a group.

The night before the workshop is planned as an audience meet-up at a bar or restaurant. This is open for everyone, workshop participants and non-participants.
## Day one starts out downtown at Powell Station, the site of the famous cable car turnaround. We'll have a classroom for instruction and plenty of city activity right outside our door.

## Day two is a full day photo Street Safari with our own private minibus! We'll cover a complete city loop from the Mission to Haight-Ashbury, the Golden Gate Bridge, North Beach and Chinatown.

## Day three brings us back to the Mission for classroom review of post-processing and Lightroom techniques. There we have easy access to Delores Park for extraordinary people photography.

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

What do I need to bring?

For all workshops please bring a digital camera, memory card, charger. Bringing a laptop is optional.

In addition:

San Francisco Street Safari: The classical street photography focal length is around 24 to 35mm. The different aspects of street photography work well with all sorts of different focal lengths, but if you have a lens in that focal range, make sure you bring it.

Brooklyn Cookin' workshop: We will explore both available light and studio lighting on this workshop. Bring your brightest lens for the available light segment, a 50/1.8 will do nicely.

Toronto Urban: Street and cityscapes can greatly benefit from wider focal lengths, so if you own a lens in the area around 24mm, make sure to bring it.

Everest Trek: Please see the Everest Trek web site for more details.

What is included in the workshop fee?

Only the workshop is included. Transportation and accommodation are not included unless specified otherwise.

The Brooklyn Cookin' workshop has all main meals for the 2nd and 3rd day included in the workshop fee.

I know what every button on my camera does. How can I benefit from the workshop?

Being good on the technical side of photography is very helpful in many situations. Still, we as photographers can benefit to learn in other areas too. In order to take things to the next level, a photographer has to improve on the creative side too. On this workshop you will learn why certain images create certain reactions in the viewer, and how you can gain control over this with your photography.

Others say I have a good "photogapher's eye". What can I learn on the workshop?

When we start off with photography, most of us begin taking pictures "from the gut". This workshop will teach you knowledge about how you can achieve specific things with your camera and how to get a lot more control over how the viewer will see your photography.

I am not sure I'm good enough to participate in the workshop.

You most likely are. I have never had a participant at any of my workshops who walked away without having learned something. And I have never had a participant who was too much of a beginner to participate. I take great care to make sure all participants benefit from the workshops, no matter what level they are on. If you are not sure, pleae contact me and we'll find out together.

I was a participant on an earlier workshop. Will I get a discount?

Yes, repeat participants get a discount. Please see the pricing section below for specifics.
