FTTH

After months of anticipation, our town's fiber-to-the-home project is finally here! Well, almost. Over the last year Deutsche Glasfaser dug up every village and town within 20 kilometers and installed fiber optic cables in the ground and set up the necessary infrastructure to provide faster internet.

Before, we had (mostly) decent DSL from Deutsche Telekom, but it would sometimes have severe stability issues, especially during wet weather. With the new fiber optic cables, we can expect speeds of anywhere between 750-1000mbit/s down and 500mbit/s up, an over 10-fold improvement.

Today, the service was activated and although it's not yet connected to our home, initial tests have shown the significant speed boost. In hopefully just a few days, we should be able to enjoy the benefits of the new digital autobahn. Can't wait!

Keep your fingers crossed.
